College and University Dialogue September 4, 2023

Designed for Seventh-day Adventist university students and young professionals, College and University Dialogue is published by the Committee on Adventist Ministry to College and University Students (AMiCUS) in cooperation with the 13 world divisions of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and in partnership with Public Campus Ministries (PCM). Volume 35, Number 1 (2023) is now available online. In his editorial titled Do You Want to Be A Church Leader?, John M. Fowler lists important qualities such as “a personal experience with Jesus; being a witness to the resurrection; being of good repute; and being filled with the Spirit, wisdom, and faith.” Additional articles include:

Lonely but Not Depressed by Mar Benedicto Elizondo Smith
“Loneliness can be the stimulus for being closer to God, growing emotionally and spiritually, and advancing in what that God would have us do in life.”

A Sower Went Out to Sow by John Wesley Taylor V
“The parable of the sower and the seed is a call for self-diagnosis: What is the condition of my heart? Can the seeds of God’s Word survive and bear fruit in my life?”

Adventist Possibility Ministries: Restoring Self-Respect Opens a Window of Hope and Possibilities for the Marginalized by Larry R. Evans
“The willingness to see unrealized possibilities in others is the beginning of change. We must never try to write the conclusion for ourselves or anyone else, regardless of apparent disabilities, while God is still adding chapters. Possibility thinking clears the way for new perspectives and opportunities.”

The Bravery of Integrity by Daniel Bediako
“Daniel and his friends displayed in their lives and service the essence of true religion—that character is not the product of mere academic training but is rooted in the principles and values of God’s Word.”

Trust Him, and All Will Be Well by Marta Susana Díaz
“Never doubt God’s power to come to our aid. Even before we pray, He has devised a solution to our problems. All we need to do is to trust Him.”

The Rise of a Hero by Luis A. Rojas
“Let God take control of your life. With Him by your side, nothing can stop you from being a hero of faith.”

Dumitru Bortun: A Dialogue with a Romanian Professor of Semiotics by Adrian Bocaneanu
“As a student of philosophy, I realized that life cannot be the creation of chance, human reason is not all-powerful, rational knowledge has inherent limits, and no social or economic scheme can radically change human nature, which remains ‘desperately wicked’ (Jeremiah 17:9, NKJV). The collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe showed me that, any political system is doomed to fail if it rejects the biblical teaching that all humankind is fallen.”

This issue is also available in Spanish, French and Portuguese.
